Mainstrip Environmental Advantages
Power Consumption
We can compare conventional- and thin slab casting with the Twin Roll Casting-Technology (TRC). Depending on the product and installation, a thin slab caster plant will have the caster with mould oscillation and drives, the reheating devices, and 5—8 rolling mill stands with the discharge and coilers, including auxiliaries of a total 40’000—70’000 kW installed. Against this, the TRC has the twin roll drives and after the tensioner a single or double 4-high inline stand, the discharge and coilers with a max. installed power of 4’000—7’000 kW.

Greenhouse Emissions
Compared to conventional slab- and thin slab casting technologies, twin roll casting significantly reduces the energy requirements by avoiding reheating furnaces and several hot rolling mills stands. The same can be said with respect to greenhouse gas emissions. Both the energy requirements and the greenhouse gas emissions are at around 10% of the conventional thin slab caster technology.
